Patellofermoral Dysfunctions

Patellofemoral dysfunction is a general term applied to conditions of the kneecap, knee joint and associated musculature. Generally, it is the combination of an imbalance in the flexibility and strength of the quadriceps, hamstrings and hips that leads to associated knee pain and disability.

Rehab SECRETS for this condition are:

  1. Take anti-inflammatory medications as directed by your physician.
  2. Ice to the affected area for 20 minutes as needed.
  3. Decrease painful activity for 2-3 weeks.
  4. Stretching should not increase pain. Stretch in a pain-free range.
  5. If your condition does not improve ask for a referral to Community Rehab Physical Therapy.
